Comfortable and Tight-Fitting Dentures in Middletown, NJ
Dentures are an option for patients that have lost all of their natural teeth due to injury, tooth decay, or gum disease. Missing teeth can impact speech patterns, the ability to chew foods, and cause facial muscles to sag, making a patient appear older. Dentures restore a patient’s ability to speak clearly, chew solid foods, and fill out the appearance of the face and smile. The Navesink Dental Care team of Dr. Allan Ruda and Dr. Beth DeAngelis offer two types of dentures to patients in Middletown, NJ – full dentures and partial dentures.
Full or Conventional Dentures
Full, or conventional, dentures are recommended for patients that have lost all of their natural teeth. Conventional dentures are usually inserted after all of the teeth have been removed and the gums have begun to heal, usually after about 12 weeks. As a temporary solution while a patient’s gum heals, immediate dentures are used after any remaining teeth have been removed. Immediate dentures allow the patient to have teeth during the healing process but will most likely need to be realigned or redesigned after healing is complete as the gums will shift and change during this time.
Partial dentures are recommended if a patient has not lost all of their natural teeth but are missing more teeth than a dental bridge will fix. Partial dentures are designed to fit around the remaining healthy teeth and can be either removable or fixed. Removable partial dentures can be removed from the mouth for cleaning or eating. Fixed partial dentures are the same as a removable partial denture, except that it is cemented into place using the adjacent teeth for support.
