Dentures

Comfortable and Tight-Fitting Dentures

Dentures are an option for patients that have lost all of their natural teeth due to injury, tooth decay, or gum disease. Missing teeth can impact speech patterns and the ability to chew foods. Missing teeth can also cause facial muscles to sag, making a patient appear older.

Dentures restore a patient’s ability to speak clearly, chew solid foods, and fill out the appearance of the face and smile. Navesink Dental Care in Red Bank offers two types of dentures – full and partial.

Full or Conventional Dentures

Full, or conventional, dentures are recommended for patients that have lost all of their natural teeth. Conventional dentures are usually inserted after all of the teeth have been removed and the gums have begun to heal, usually after about 12 weeks. As a temporary solution while a patient’s gum heals are immediate dentures. These allow the patient to have teeth during the healing process but will most likely need to be realigned or redesigned after healing is complete as the gums will shift and change during this time.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are recommended if a patient has not lost all of their natural teeth but are missing more teeth than a dental bridge will fix. These are designed to fit around the remaining healthy teeth and can be either removable or fixed. Removable partial dentures can be removed from the mouth for cleaning or eating. Fixed partial dentures are the same as a removable partial denture, except that it is cemented into place using the adjacent teeth for support.
